This is an article about Selena Gomez and how she’s spreading the knowledge of Jesus to millions of young people across the world. It’s also about how Jesus is driving the school bus of creation towards a time when the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord.[1] The original design of the earth was to be “very good” in the eyes of God.[2] Though mankind fell, God promised to restore “all the families of the earth”[3] to their original blessing. In fact, He has already accomplished the work of a complete redemption.[4] Now it’s just a matter of humanity coming into the knowledge of this truth.
In this decade, the knowledge of His glory is spreading more than ever. There are currently more believers and more missionaries on planet earth than ever before. Jesus taught that when one single person enters the kingdom of heaven there is a celebration in heaven. He compared this to a woman throwing a party after finding a lost coin.[5] In 2016, that “woman” is doing a whole lot of partying as millions of “lost coins” are being found all around the world.
One space in society where this is happening is through the life of Selena Gomez. Selena is a young actress and singer who has a huge following. She has roughly 70 million followers on Instagram and 40 million followers on Twitter. The majority of her fans are young girls. Along with a beautiful voice and a charming look, Selena is known for for her vulnerability and for openly sharing her heart with the world. She is also becoming increasingly known for her connection to Hillsong, a church with a global network that includes a branch in downtown Los Angeles.
She recently surprised many people by appearing on stage at the Hillsong Young and Free’s “Youth Revival” tour in LA. She even performed a song from her album called “Nobody.”
In the song, there are powerful lyrics about God’s love: “Nobody’s gonna love me like you.” A fan of hers on Twitter once asked her what inspired her to write the song and she replied, “God.” She then added that the song is “about Him.” In the song, she sings that “no kiss, no lips, no feel, no rush” can love her the way God does.
This kind of message about how nothing in this world can compare to God’s love is a beautiful aroma to Jesus. This is the knowledge of Him that is spreading to millions of young people who are yet to discover the waves of His love. Like many of the early disciples, Selena is still on a journey but she is already very aware that the love of Jesus is the center of our human existence. She is one voice among many who will continue to spread the knowledge of Him in the days ahead. The earth has a glorious destiny under the shade of His love. Thanks Selena.
