Bible Studies in the White House, Changes in Society

This week . . . Bible studies at the White House, major changes in the church’s approach to orphanages, and a Christian rap artist welcoming kids back to school.

Bible studies at the White House

The Cabinet of the current presidential administration is apparently gathering together to study the Bible on a regular basis. It is believed that a formal Bible study amongst executive members of the Cabinet has not been done in over 100 years. This includes people like the secretaries of education, energy, agriculture, health, and the attorney general. (Essentially, the people who oversee the things that affect every area of our society.)

The Word is living and active, and so we can expect a great amount of fruit to come out of this Bible study. Let’s pray that a revelation of grace and wisdom fills these studies as these leaders meet together over the Word.

Changes in the modern orphanage

Christianity Today has released an insightful article on how the global church is abandoning its focus on orphanages. In the past, institutional orphanages were the main ways to help children without caregivers (and the church was the main supporter and initiator of these organizations). However, there has been a growing shift where the church is now focused more on the individual family system. So instead of raising money to construct buildings that house orphans, resources are being directed more toward educating and helping families adopt and support those without parents so that kids can find an individual home.

The article does a good job, however, at still focusing on the powerful things that some institutional models are doing. Read it here. Either way, a reformation is at hand regarding our embrace of the fatherless.

Christian rap artist collaborates with Old Navy and Pharrell

Dwayne Reed, a Christian rapper and teacher, was recently approached by the retail chain Old Navy and pop superstar Pharrell to create a special song that would promote education and honor great teachers. Reed was honored to take the opportunity and worked with Pharrell’s company in making a video that welcomes kids back to school. See it here.

There is a fresh influence of the church in the realm of education. Expect to see more creative in-roads to the educational sector as the church continues to grow in a revelation her identity. (And perhaps there’s a connection to the secretary and leader of education in America who is attending the Bible study mentioned earlier…)
